Not every journey is destined to be long and leisurely, but that is no reason to stay home and feel sorry that you don’t have more time. It just means you will have to be wiser with your time! A three-day journey to Tulsa won’t show you everything we have to offer but it will give you enough of a glimpse to whet your appetite and start planning a return visit when you have that extra time on your hands. This guide to your trip to Tulsa Oklahoma and your stay in our StayInTulsaOK vacation sanctuaries will help you plan out your adventures carefully, giving you a pretty healthy idea of what all there is to do here.
Day 1: Get Your Kicks on Route 66
Route 66 is perhaps the most famous stretch of highway in America, having been constructed to give travelers a quick and efficient drive from Los Angeles to Chicago and one leg of that road takes you through Tulsa, offering a chance to explore history and have a little fun at the same time.
Breakfast at Tally’s Good Food Café, 1102 S Yale Avenue
Every journey begins with a hearty breakfast and while you are exploring Route 66, be sure and start yours with a visit to Tally’s Good Food Café. Offering a vintage 50s décor that fits their location perfectly and serving hearty breakfasts, lunches, and dinners, their homemade cinnamon rolls are sure to sweeten your day!
Blue Whale of Catoosa
This next Route 66 adventure is one of those quirky roadside ones, taking you on a road trip to the nearby town of Catoosa, just 15 miles outside of Tulsa. The Blue Whale of Catoosa “swims” in a nearby pond and is a handmade sculpture created by a local zoologist in 1972, thinking it would be fun for his grandkids. Standing 20 feet tall and stretching out for 80 feet, the whale is made of painted concrete and metal and even has a secret compartment that visitors can explore. This has become a top selfie spot and the pictures taken are sure to be a fun conversation starter.
Day 2: A Walk in the Park
There are quite a few fantastic parks in Tulsa, and if a day at the park sounds fun, these beautiful ones listed below will add something wonderful to your Oklahoma vacation.
The Gathering Place, 2650 S John Williams Way
The Gathering Place is not your average park. Taking up 65 plus acres of landscape, it truly is where families gather. Offering three playgrounds, multiple gardens, water fun areas, sport courts, a skate park, hiking trails, and Willow Beach a sandy area of land that leads into the waters of Peggy’s Pond, this adventure will take more than a day to complete, but at least you will have a better idea of what you want to do when you return.
Woodward Park and Gardens, 2435 S Peoria Avenue
This park is a celebration of flowers, offering a botanical garden and an arboretum on its 45 acres. There isn’t a playground at Woodward Park, but there are plenty of areas to walk, run, and allow your littles to burn off some of their energy and picnics at the park are always a good idea. Toss something together in the fully equipped kitchen of your StayInTulsaOK sanctuary and enjoy a leisurely afternoon amidst the flowers, trees, and plants that grow so beautifully here.
Day 3: Sipping the Day Away
A good beer on a warm spring day is always a good thing, and Tulsa is known for offering more than a few breweries where the beer is absolutely excellent. The ones listed below are a couple of favorites, but if you happen to be driving down a street and one pops into your line of vision, be sure and stop in and enjoy a sip or two even if it isn’t on our list below.
Dead Armadillo Craft Brewing, 1004 E 4th Street
We have to admit, the name is what first caught our attention, but if the beers hadn’t met our high standards, you would never know this place existed. In business since 2013, they offer a variety of beers brewed on the premises, with their Dead Armadillo Amber being their first offering.
Nothing’s Left Brewing Co, 1502 E 6th Street
Nothing’s Left is a relative newcomer to the brewery market, opening its doors for the first time in 2018, but we were hooked from our first sip. The names of their beers are as quirky as you might imagine, including Basic Bitch which is, of course, a pumpkin spiced beer, and the very popular All Killer, No Filler, an old school IPA.
