Although it doesn’t get that cold in Tulsa in the winter, we still appreciate the beauty of a warmer spring day, and as the first tulips begin to push through the dark earth, the rains fall a little more frequently and your thoughts turn to travel you may find yourself thinking spring is a great time to visit Tulsa—and you would be right! This guide to spring in Tulsa and your stay in our bright and welcoming Oklahoma retreats will give you a little bit of sunshine during your dreary winter wonderings.
Day 1: Walk with the Animals
While you may not actually get to walk with the animals, it’s more like you will be walking alongside them with a visit to the Tulsa Zoo, located at 6421 36th Street N. It is almost a ritual for mothers of young children on the first warm days to get out the strollers, pack a bag of snacks, and to spend a beautiful day strolling along the 84 acres of land and water, but it isn’t just for young moms, the zoo, offering 1500 animals living in habitats as close to their natural ones as possible is fun for people of all ages.
Day 2: Stop and Smell the Flowers
The Tulsa Botanic Garden is actually beautiful anytime of the year, but in the spring, when those tulips are in bloom along with 170 acres of other flora, we really think the Garden comes alive. Also a popular wedding view, the peace and serenity that is inherent in the blooms will make your special day that much more memorable, but even if you aren’t thinking of the Botanic Garden for your venue, we assure you that you will enjoy every minute of your time on the paths. Tulsa Botanic Blooms, taking place in late March and early April, is one of the largest spring flower festivals in the area and when you catch sight of the tulips in all their glorious colors your spring break will shine bright.
Day 3: Watery Adventures on a Rainy Day
Yes, rain probably will fall on your springtime adventures in Tulsa, but that’s ok, go with it and take a trip to the Oklahoma Aquarium located just down the road at 300 Aquarium Drive in Jenks. The largest tank in this really cool aquarium holds a whopping 500,000 gallons of water, but if that doesn’t impress you, you might want to check out the smaller 380,000 gallon tan that is home to ten of the most dangerous sharks in the world.
Day 4: That’s a Lot of Dough
It’s pizza dough we are talking about here, not the money in your pocket and when the craving hits for a big slice of pie, East Village Bohemian Pizzeria, located at 818 E 3rd Street will make your stomach happy. Moderately priced and offering a fun patio decorated in twinkle lights that reflect off its red brick building, their wood fired pizzas are sure to become your newest obsession.
Day 5: May Fun at the Mayfest
Mayfest is a spring festival that it feels like we wait all year to arrive. Offering an entire weekend of live art performances, exhibits, and the opportunity to watch these creative beings do their thing, an exciting kid’s section is sure to bring joy to your youngest traveling companions. Also offering dozens of food and drink vendors and two art installations, this festival might be the most beautiful one in the region.
Day 6: Art, Art, and More Art
In case you didn’t get enough artistic inspiration at Mayfest, the Philbrook Museum of Art, located at 2727 S Rockford Road, offers a great follow up. The Italianate mansion that once belonged to a local oil baron and the gardens that will be at their most stunning in the spring, offer an opportunity to explore art, both natural (the gardens) and created (the rest of the museum.
